Photo requirements
Before you start, review our tips, as your photo needs to meet these requirements.
- Your Ontario photo card
- Your Visa or Mastercard (debit or credit)
- Access to any device that can capture a photo (Webcam or Mobile )
- Find a spot by the window where the light is even and bright, not warm and dark
- Lighting guidance The light should hit your face from all sides
- Avoid glares on the lenses and shadows, especially around your eyes
- Look straight ahead, keep your face natural and relaxed
- No big smiles, frowns, raised eyebrows, squinting, or teeth showing
- Do not let your hair cover your eyebrows or any part of your face
- Please remove any accessories, glasses, or face coverings
- Use a device with a camera and make sure the camera settings allow access to your browser
- Quality can not be low and be sure to wipe the lens
- If you use a phone’s front camera, please use both hands. This will make sure your shoulders face forward and you look straight ahead
- don’t have a valid driver’s license
- are a resident of Ontario
- are 16 years of age or older
- have not updated your address in the last 90 days
- are the Ontario photo card holder (you cannot renew an Ontario photo card on behalf of someone else)

The fees may vary if:
- the renewal period is not for a full 5 years, for example the expiry data on your driver’s license is changing to match the expiry date on your health card
- you are 76 years of age or older
